the body of a dog

thrown away

in the winter river

                 — Masaoka Shiki

Welcome to Mu. We, here at Mu, are looking for the guts in haiku. Basho once told his students, “Prefer vegetable broth to duck soup.” We miss the vegetable broth in haiku. Send us some broth; we’ll taste it, if we like it, we’ll save the leftovers, if we don’t, we’ll just spit it back out. Nonetheless, if we haikuists don’t stir the brevity broth in some way, we’ll see the haiku world go unMu, and drain itself until it no longer exists. We don’t want to see that happen, we enjoy haiku too much. That’s why we are starting here. Want to know more about vegetable broth? Check out our ISSUE and CONTEST pages.

We look forward to reading your work, so please send away. Good health, peace and good writing to everyone!
